Whitewater

Breakfast at the Hume just get better and better.  In addition to the regular menu choices, each day they have a special which on Thursday happened to be this: gammon, egg, brie, salad, avocado, some nice saucy thing and some posh bread, served with a bit of fruit in a bowl and a slither of orange and pineapple on the side.  Just brilliant it was.  But too much and I'm afraid to say it beat me, maybe that was due to amount of food we ate at the Loki restaurant the night before.  #FeelingStuffedInNelson

Breakfast

We left the hotel round 8.45am for the 20 minute drive to Nelson's local ski area, Whitewater, which is renowned for getting tons of snow and it didn't disappoint (to a point).

The journey up to Whitewater was easy enough in the Highlander, despite the last section being snow covered.

The conditions on the hill (over here they call their mountains "hills") were mixed.  Higher up there was some lovely fresh powder, maybe 10cm or so, and we had two or three fantastic runs.  But lower down was quite firm freeze thaw conditions.

The black diamond runs are quite tricky over here, so we try to stick to the blues (approx reds in Europe).  We were doing this blue run with lovely powder and got a little carried away, forgot to pay attention to the signposts and ended up skiing past the turn off and ending up on quite a steep and bumpy black diamond run.  Fin did a great job in leading us down, getting us back to base for a well earnt lunch.  Yes, more food.

This was our one and only day at Whitewater, it was a good introduction and like the other areas we've visited just has huge potential if you're prepared to deviate from the prepared pistes and have an adventurous side to your game.
