Playing about with time lapse videos on the GoPro.
Been a bit of a chore to get it something like. There's a couple of modes available on the GoPro, Time-lapse Video and Time-lapse Photo. Neither of which apply time stamps, so to get to what we have here I used the time-lapse Photo mode, shooting at either 1 second or 2 second intervals depending on the length of the journey.
Then used a batch processing bit of software called Batchstamp to extract the date and time from the LDIF info and superimpose it on the pictures.
Then I used iMovie on the Mac to stitch all the pictures together, although with iMovie the minimum clip duration is 0.1s whereas to play back at 1 minute per second, which is what I wanted, I need each frame to be 0.033s (30 frames per second if shooting at 1 sec intervals). So I then used iMovie again to speed everything up by 600% which results in what you see below.
Edit: in later timelapses I changed to 2 second capture intervals, so post editing required a 300% speed up.
Bit of a phaff, but it works, sort of. The only disappointment is the way youtube drastically reduces the quality, so just have to live with that until we come up with some better way.
This example is for the short journey from the airport to the Calgary overnighter. I'm hoping that the longer journeys might provide some more interesting viewing.
